Growth Factor-9 Review

growth factor 9

Growth Factor-9, and its anti-aging equivalent SeroVital, are causing quite the stir among bodybuilders and fitness experts alike.

According to advertisements, this formula is a “game-changer” for many due to its supposed ability to increase HGH levels naturally without the need for injections.

“The real miracle,” explain experts at Sierra Research Group, “is that the many touted benefits of healthy HGH levels – increased energy, reduced wrinkles, increased sex drive, weight loss, muscle gain, improved mood – may no longer be restricted to the uber rich and famous.”[1]

But is this HGH supplement as effective as it seems?

SeroVital Formula

Growth Factor-9 contains 2.9 g of a proprietary amino acid blend known as SeroVital. SeroVital HGH is produced by SanMedica LLC, but Novex Biotech is officially licensed to use the formula.

Dr. Amy Heaton, PhD, Director of Scientific Affairs for SanMedica International explains SeroVital is a “unique amino acid formulation” that “encourages the pituitary gland to produce HGH at more youthful levels. . .The study was groundbreaking, because it showed that the proprietary combination of amino acids contained in the SeroVital formula increases endogenous HGH levels more than six fold.” [1]

But what amino acids are used?

L-Arginine. Arginine is popularly used to build muscle due to its abilities to increase nitric oxide production. Studies show large arginine doses significantly increase HGH production, by as much as 100-200% when combined with exercise. [2]

However, most experts agree that it takes large doses in order to promote significant results, ranging from 5-9 grams to as much as 10 to 30 grams. Growth Factor-9 only contains 2.9 grams in its total proprietary blend, so I assume there is not enough arginine on its own to promote HGH production.

L-Lysine. L-lysine may promote HGH production when combined with L-arginine, but study results are mixed. Some experts found a 1200 mg arginine and 1200 mg lysine combination to be an effective dose to increase HGH[3]. Yet others disproved lysine as an HGH releaser. [4]

Even if I assumed lysine to be an effective HGH secretagogue, a 2.9 proprietary blend is too small to be an effective dose.

N-Acetyl L-Cysteine. NAC acts as a powerful antioxidant and immunity booster. It eliminates free radicals that may be inhibiting HGH production.

Cysteine breaks down into two metabolites: glutathionine peroxidase and glutathione. A few researchers believe glutathione improves HGH utilization but there is no clinical research to confirm this belief.

L-Glutamine. Glutamine, like arginine, increases circulating HGH levels when taken in high doses (2 grams or more) and combined with physical exercise. But once again, Growth Factor-9 does not contain enough glutamine to promote reliable results.

Oxoproline. Oxoproline is a glutamic acid derivative that may protect against oxidative stress. There is no clinical information available at this time to validate any claims to increasing HGH production.

Schizonepeta. This Japanese catnip decreases inflammation by inhibiting cytokine release, but it has no clinically proven effect on HGH.

Do These Ingredients Work?

As you can see, many of the Growth Factor-9 ingredients are either unproven or in doses too small to be effective.

Consequently, I can’t help but be a little skeptical of claims to increase HGH production by as much as 682%.

Scientists at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center say SeroVital increases bioactive, serum (blood) HGH levels by as much as 682% in less than 120 minutes after its consumption. [1]

While this may sound convincing at first, the details and results of this study are unpublished and unavailable for public viewing. Furthermore, I can’t tell whether the study was sponsored by the manufacturers or if it was otherwise biased in the product’s favor.

Until I know more about this study, I’m not convinced that Growth Factor-9 is as effective as advertisements portray.

Are There Any Risks?

Growth Factor-9 does not contain any natural or synthetic hormones, so you don’t have to worry about the risks of taking an illegal steroid.

Judging from consumer reviews, I assume Growth Factor-9 does not cause any negative side effects. This is understandable because Growth Factor-9 is a stimulant-free amino blend.

However, this doesn’t completely eliminate the risk of negative side effects.

Taking more than the recommended 4 capsules a day may put you at risk for abdominal pain and discomfort.

Furthermore, certain ingredients may interact negatively with your current medications. To ensure safety, consult your doctor prior to use.

Growth Factor-9 Pricing Options

Growth Factor-9 is said to be a “wallet-friendly” way to boost HGH, but it’s still a pricey supplement.

You can order Growth Factor-9 from the following suppliers:

• $99 (+$6.95 in shipping)
• $99.99
• $99.99
• $99.99

Or for similar results, you can buy SeroVital at for $99 a bottle.

Is There a Guarantee?

Supposedly Novex Biotech offers a satisfaction guarantee, but there is no terms and conditions page to specify its coverage. It could cover a fully used bottle or only unopened ones. It could be a lifetime guarantee, or a mere 14 days. . .

I tried contacting customer service for more information, but have yet to receive a reply.

Who Makes Growth Factor-9?

Not a lot is known about Novex Biotech, Growth Factor-9’s distributors, SanMedica, SeroVital HGH’s distributors, or even Sierra Research, the researchers behind both formulas.

All three companies are located in Salt Lake City, Utah, and all three are registered as limited liability companies.

None of the companies are accredited by the Better Business Bureau, and there are too few consumer reviews to verify any available information.

I’d love to know more about how these three companies are connected, so if you have any additional insight, please feel free to post a comment below.

Should You Try Growth Factor-9?

Growth Factor-9 does have a few good ingredients for improving HGH production. But until I know more about the product and its manufacturers, I’m not convinced that the formula actually works.

The price tag and the lack of evidence warrant two thumbs down in my book – but what do you think? Did Growth Factor-9 help you?

  1. I’m on my 3rd bottle of GF9. I LOVE it! I work out hard 3 to 4 times a week. GF9 cuts my recovery time in half and it started almost immediately after I started taking it. I don’t know about all the anti-aging claims. I honestly don’t really care. However, at 43, my libido is through the roof! I highly recommend this product to women if they work out intensely and regularly. It says right on the bottle that individual results vary so I’m stoked that I’m seeing such positive results!
